  • US-based firm with public team

  • FinCEN-registered MSB

  • KYC, AML & sanctions review

  • Chain of custody & evidence-conscious handling

Two ways to engage Praefortis.

STANDARD WALLET RECOVERY

10% of digital assets successfully recovered

This model is designed for a defined recovery objective: an inaccessible hardware or software wallet, a known device or wallet file, and a client with clear legal authority to recover the assets.

  • Confidential case and technical viability review

  • Recovery strategy tailored to the wallet and evidence

  • Specialized hardware, software, and forensic recovery work

  • Secure transfer to the client-authorized destination

  • Case documentation appropriate to the engagement

PROFESSIONAL INVESTIGATIONS

$5,000 retainer, plus an agreed hourly rate

Some matters require substantial investigation before a recovery path can be defined, or involve evidence, litigation, suspected theft, asset tracing, or expert support rather than a straightforward wallet recovery.

  • Initial forensic investigation and scoping

  • Blockchain and digital-asset movement analysis

  • Evidence preservation and chain-of-custody support

  • Technical consultation, reporting, and expert support

  • Coordination with counsel or authorized agencies

Which Model Applies?

The scope determines the structure.

Use the 10% model when the recovery target is defined.

A specific wallet, device, backup, or wallet file is known; the requesting party has authority; and the objective is to restore access and securely return recovered assets.

Use retainer plus hourly when the facts must first be established.

The matter involves suspected malfeasance, disputed or unknown asset locations, evidentiary analysis, litigation support, a criminal investigation, or a broad forensic scope.

A high bar before we begin.

Praefortis accepts matters only when authority, compliance, security, and technical conditions can be responsibly established.

  • Authority: The requesting party must demonstrate ownership, fiduciary authority, legal authorization, or agency authority appropriate to the matter.

  • Compliance: Identity, KYC/AML, sanctions, and other required checks must be completed before recovery work or asset movement.

  • Evidence: Where a device or matter may have evidentiary value, handling procedures and documentation are established before examination.

  • Asset control: Recovered assets are directed to the destination authorized in the engagement. Praefortis does not hold client funds as a custodian.

FAQ

Is the 10% success fee paid upfront?

No. For a standard wallet recovery engagement, the 10% fee is tied to assets successfully recovered under the signed agreement. No 10% success fee is charged on assets that are not recovered.

Does every matter require a $5,000 retainer?

No. Praefortis may request a $5,000 retainer when a matter requires initial forensic investigation or professional services billed hourly. This is most common in legal, law-enforcement, fiduciary, and institutional engagements.

Do you work with private individuals?

Yes, selectively. Most accepted private wallet recovery matters are considered under the flat 10% success-fee model. Retainer and hourly investigations are generally reserved for attorneys, law enforcement, and other authorized professional clients.

How is the 10% value calculated?

The valuation source, valuation time, payment method, and definition of a successful recovery are stated in the engagement agreement before work begins. This avoids uncertainty caused by changing digital-asset prices.

Can there be additional expenses?

Case-specific expenses such as insured shipping, travel, specialized third-party work, or other extraordinary costs should be disclosed and approved in writing before they are incurred.

Do you guarantee recovery?

No. Wallet condition, firmware, encryption, available evidence, prior handling, and many other facts affect the outcome. Praefortis evaluates each matter carefully, but no recovery result can be guaranteed.
